Today I want to share my thoughts on Valspar Cabinet Enamel Paint in case it can help you in your home projects! This post contains affiliate links for your convenience. See my disclosure policy here. I am always trying out new kinds of paint. You can read about my tutorial on chalk paint here. When we bought our s fixer-upper, it had been largely untouched since it was built. They had replaced the flooring and a few other odds and ends, but for the most part, it had been neglected.
It always amazes me what a coat of paint can do for the look of a space. Since replacing them has never been in the budget, we painted. I HATE painting trim. Hate it. I told myself in the last house that I would never do it again.
But here we are. The end product is worth it, but getting there is a process. It includes a tutorial for painting trim! You can use a trim brush, a small roller, or there are also special tools made just for painting trim. I usually use a trim brush, but my hubby prefers the special trim tools.
To each his own! Now to the review. This time I purchased the Valspar Cabinet Enamel Paint hoping it would make painting the trim easier. So I started on the trim in the laundry room painting over the old cream color. You can read more about it here. I had to do three coats to get them completely covered. If I had used a primer, I would still have ended up doing three coats since they recommend two of the cabinet enamel. Next, I decided to use it on the new door my hubby installed in our half bath.
It was really frustrating.Rhino repair uk
The finish kept coming out streaky and you could see the brush marks. It looked like a bad paint job. SOOOO I decided to try again on our paneling turned board and batten project you can read about here. This time I used a primer first. Again I ended up doing three coats of Valspar Cabinet Enamel and it still looked streaky!
I decided to try one more thing before throwing it out.
I purchased a small roller and tried rolling the paint on instead. It worked. I rolled it on the board and batten and it dried smooth and streak-free. I rolled it on the door and it worked there, as well.Given the staggering cost of new kitchen and bathroom cabinetsit's no wonder that homeowners often turn to paint as a cost-effective alternative way of changing the look of their cabinets.
Not only that, painting gives you complete freedom to exercise your creative potential. No longer are you bound by a set number of cabinet finishes. While you have leeway as to paint types in other areas of the home, cabinets need paint that is hardy enough to withstand repeated touching, food and liquid splashes, and other physical impacts.
What you need is a paint that is either designated specifically for cabinets or another type of paint that is especially cabinet-friendly. Here are seven cabinet paint brands that you can count on to produce a rock-hard, smooth, self-leveling surface.
This eco-friendly zero VOC paint is easy to wipe off or wash, as it comes with a percent gloss. Not only is high gloss functional, but it is back in style. Designers are increasingly using high gloss paints on typically gloss-averse surfaces such as ceilings and walls. This paint costs about twice as much as even the premium paints found at your local home center.
High gloss paint is often the go-to product when it comes to cabinets. Higher glosses translate to lower surface porosity, so stains and fingerprints don't stick as easily. But what do you do if you want a lower sheen, such as satin, for your cabinets? Also available in semi-gloss and full gloss, Benjamin Moore Advance offers a huge palette of over 3, colors. Professional painters like Advance's low viscosity. This thinner product allows for faster painting, yet the paint retains structure after drying, and edges are crisp, sharp, and precise.
Advance Interior behaves like an alkyd, or oil-based, paint but is a water-based paint. This allows you to clean up with warm water.
This Vermont-based paint maker leads the way with its innovative products. The rigorous conditions found in kitchens and bathrooms do even more to promote yellowing. So, if a tough white cabinet paint is your desire, Fine Paints of Europe produces the cabinet-ready Eurolux Acrylic.
The company feels so secure about Eurolux Acrylic's colorfastness that it guarantees it will be non-yellowing under all circumstances. Fine Paints of Europe is serious about painted cabinets, and it addresses the perennial problem of wood grain telegraphing through paint layers with a product called Brushing Putty.
This is a high-build sanding primer that is brushed over the wood and is sanded down to conceal the grain patterns. Valspar's Cabinet Enamel is a cabinet-specific latex paint that behaves much like an oil-based paint. A hybrid, Valspar Cabinet Enamel is a latex interior paint that is oil-enriched.
Oil is the magic ingredient in paints that has long produced streak-free surfaces. Majority oil-based paints have largely been discontinued since due to their non-green high volatile organic content VOC. You can still buy majority oil-based paints but only in limited, one-quart quantities. Unlike oil-based paints, Valspar Cabinet Enamel does not require petroleum products such as turpentine for clean-up.
Warm water and soap are all you need. One advantage of choosing Valspar is its ready availability since you can find it at your nearest Lowe's Home Improvement store. Cost is comparable to the Benjamin Moore Advance paints.

It's warm, clean without being sterile, and reads well in all kinds of light. BHG executive editor Rachel DeSchepper painted her entire house in Moonlight White, which she describes as a not-too-cold, not-too-creamy white.
It's the perfect shade for a tranquil bedroom when layering on other whites in various textures. Use it with warm neutral tones for a cozy space that only off-white paint colors can achieve. It pairs nicely with warm wood tones, gold accents, and soft colorful neutrals. Polar Bear continues to be Behr's most popular crisp white. Thanks so much for the advice and this great give-a-way!! Just having moved a year ago my whole home has gotten a redo. My poor bedroom twice, never liked the goldish yellow I first tried.
That being said, I repainted my room a bright deep girlie pink. It sounds intense but is very elegant. Next I plan to put molding, in white with a black edge on the bottom, at the top of the walls. Whew…busy year. My favorite white? Any white with a gloss or chalk paint. Thanks for offering this giveaway. My next room to receive new paint will be my office. It is going to be white!
We have vaulted ceilings in the majority of our home.
I would love to have a VERY bright stark white on the cabinets in my kitchen. But I am over the moon excited to get something completed around here. We are building a new home, and just finished our interior painting. Admittedly, I used colors rather than white, altho all our trim is white, inside and out. First we tried what a paint man told us was his favorite, B.There are thousands of shades of white paint, and picking the perfect one can seem daunting.
This is my go-to color, and used throughout our home. I am definitely not a grocery list kind of girl.Toddler pageant
So before we began painting our wood paneling — to tide us over until we remodeled — I did a little bit of pre-planning. Just a true, versatile, white. After reading many articles online, I decided that Bistro White by Valspar would be the perfect shade for our home. While there are thousands of different shades of white, I really liked the warmth of Bistro White without it being yellow or creamy.
Initially we went to Home Depot to purchase the paint; however, they only sell Behr products. I was upset because I had read so many good things about Bristo Whiteand had my heart set on it. Luckily she laughed along with me, and then color matched the paint. We purchased two five-gallon buckets and used it to cover up the orange wood paneling in our living room. We used 2 coats, and it made such a big difference.
I really loved the color and was happy with it, so when we officially remodeled our home, I continued to use the paint color throughout our house. Our kitchen, base boards, trim, walls…everything is painted with Bistro White. It is warm, but not yellow.
It is truly white, but does not appear stark. And it lacks blue undertones which I feel are uninviting. If you are searching for the perfect shade of white, I wish you luck. We are very happy with Bistro White, and I think you will love it in your home as well!
Your email address will not be published. Just a hint though. It is a warmer white which I lovebut not creamy. It has that white crisp feel to […]. I have been using Bistro White as my go-to white for many years, almost a whole decade.Percent to goal formula

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged. But waxing and buffing wear my arms out and with the number of projects I am usually working on I have been looking for alternatives, just to add a little variety.
The difference between the two is that the Furniture Paint is a satin finish and the Cabinet paint is a semi-gloss finish. Valspar boasts that there is no sanding or and no brush marks. I had a dresser that has been in my garage for about three years, it was a nice piece, solid wood and a lovely dark green color with wood knobs. It needed some repair so after taking care of that we brought it inside I bought a quart of Midnight Fog and went to work.
This is what it looked like before, I took the drawers out before the picture whoops. You can see where I did use a little primer, there were some knots showing through and I just was a little skeptical. The first coat when on great. One minor drawback to this paint is the dry time. You must wait hours in between coats. I waited the full 12 and probably longer before adding a second coat.
The Valspar Cabinet Paint laid down great, I was very happy with the results. I did put a third coat on the drawers, it was a bit thin in some areas probable due to the user not the paint. On the top I wanted a little contrast so I used Minwax Polyshades in Espresso, the knobs were a little tricky, do you like my knob tree? The finished product, all reassembled:. Leave me some comments I would love to here from you.
I want to paint my bathroom sink vanity and want to get rid of that old oak grain…. Thank you Sandy! The grain does not show through at all.
Although I will tell you that I did paint three coats on the drawers before I was happy with them. The first coat should be fairly thin especially if you are painting a slick surface, this will prevent the paint from running. I painted a bathroom vanity that was stained oak.Ledx tarkov interchange
